The early story to this year’s US Open seems to be the course: Robert
Trent Jones, Jr’s, Chambers Bay, a links-style course opening for play
only 8 years ago. It’s the first time the US Open has been contested in
the Pacific Northwest. So far reviews have been mixed. Ian Poulter seems
happy to speak for those who think it’s a bad idea; “a complete farce”
is how Poults put it. Golf writer, Alan Shipnuck called it “jaw
dropping” and “it can’t get here soon enough” and represents the
pro-side. Tiger seems to fall within the middle ground, “depends on how
it’s set up” and “so many options”. I think who ever wins will consider
this move by the USGA a jolly good idea.
Speaking of Tiger, he flew in a few days ago and got in some practice
at the course. Earlier, Phil made it in there for a couple of days in
preparation for his kick at the career-grand-slam can. Rory seems fairly
confident he can show up and blister the field. Who’s betting he won’t?
Well, we can answer that last question with the pool! Rory is firmly on
top with a lot of the new guard giving chase. Place your wagers, folks!
Enjoy the pool and US Open, and have a great Father’s Day, too! Fore!
Latest Pool News: June 22, 2015 – 9:00 AM.Ugh. Golf. We’ve all done it. Lining up a putt for birdie from
ten feet and then reeled when we walked off the green with bogey. An utterly brutal way to end a US Open, which takes nothing away
from Jordan Speith, a worthy champion. Dustin has had his knocks recently, but I think at the very least he now has a few more folks
on his side, including myself. Perhaps redemption at Whistling straits. We’ll see. But full marks to Jordan, who had a great
tournament and defintely deserves the championship.
To the pool, and we have a tie! Team Natural Hazards, who had the third round lead, ends up tied with Kappy’s Krew for first spot.
The winning score pick comes into play and Kappy’s Krew emerges with the win. His score was -8 to NH’s even par. Congrats to Lawrie
Kaplansky who joins an exclusive group of poolies with his second major win.Well done to Krista Lee and team Natural Hazards, who
came very close to replicating Jordan Speith’s achivement with her second pool win in a row. In third, is Bob Armstrong’s team,
Madam Marie. Congrats to all our winners.
I did double-check the scores, but please let me know if you see anything amiss. All player and team scores for the final round
area available here and at the link below. Hope everyone enjoyed the pool!
