2013 Open Championship
Golf Pool
Muirfield Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland July 18-21, 2013 Since I’m in the pool groove, I thought I’d keep it going. We haven’t had an Open Championship pool in a few years, so, let’s give it a go. I heard one scribe surmise that this might be the year of the “good guy” major winners. So far, we have Adam Scott and Justin Rose completing this prophesy. Could Luke Donald be next, and get the monkey off his back? How ‘bout Westy? And is Tiger’s elbow healed and his major putting woes history? As always, lots of great storylines to the year’s third major. Good luck, and enjoy the pool. Fore! Congrats
to Phil Mickelson, your 2013
Open Champ!
Congrats to The Hawk, Sandy Middleton, on his first pool victory! |

First off, congratulations to Phil Mickelson on his fifth major. What a
phenomenal back nine he had, capped off with the great three-wood on 17
and sealing the deal on 18 with a beautiful right to left putt falling
into the cup. A deserved win. To the coverage. Congratulations to ABC/ESPN for awarding Phil Mickelson the Claret Jug while several golfers were still on the course actually contending for it. I know they to need to cater to the American audience, and that birdie on 18 was pretty much the clincher, but I was personally screaming at the TV during the Phil/Rinaldi interview to get back to the golf. Sure, it was a long-shot, but they’re the best players in the world; they deserved our attention and respect. Phil, you should’ve gone and got a pint, and watched the final groups like the rest of us. To the pool, and congrats to Sandy Middleton’s team, The Hawk, on his first pool victory! I trust “The Hawk” is a Hogan reference. Anyway, Sandy picked Phil, Adam, and Ian Poulter, all of whom had a great final round a Muirfield. In second is James Murphy’s team, Murphy’s Magic, congrats James. And in third we have three teams tied: Greene on Green, THE BEAR, and hottdog; their respective final score picks were -6, -4 (280), and -6, meaning, THE BEAR nabs third place. Congrats, Barry. Thanks for the great pool everyone. All player and team scores are available on the final round results page, here. Maybe see you for Rochester! More news here. |
