2013 US Open Golf Pool
Merion Golf Club Ardmore, Pennsylvania June 10-16, 2013 James Dodson’s book, Ben Hogan – An American Life, has been on my bedside table for some time, and I finally got into it earlier this year. It’s been a great read, filled with detail on Ben’s early life and his extensive tournament exploits, one of which was, of course, his great win at the 1950 US Open at Merion, site of this year’s US Open. His miraculous win signaled a triumphant comeback from a horrific car accident and turned him into a national hero. It also produced one of the greatest golf photos in the sport, which I include to the right – the 1 iron at 18 (shot by Life Magazines' Hy Peskin; check out his photos here; some nice hockey pics, too). I highly recommend the book. Well, a lot has happened in the golf world since the Masters. Anchoring bans, Tiger/Sergio feud, and the opening of the golf season, for us easterners anyway. Tiger is playing incredibly well this year. Could Merion be his comeback to major glory? We’ll see. The pool is here! Get your entries in now! Fore! Congrats to Justin Rose on his first major! Congrats to Dean P. and Dormy Dude on his 2nd pool victory! |

AM. Congratulations to Jusin Rose on his first major win.
It was only a matter of time before he joined the major club. Phil came
close, and it almost seemed destined after that hole-out on 10, but not
to be. All the networks now have to trash their schmaltzy bits on his
grand win on father’s day/birthday, etc. To the pool, and congratulations are in order to Dean Pinkham on his second pool victory. Dean also a former US Open chamption back in 2007. In second place, is Rob Bennet’s team, Fried Tapas Anyone? Nice to see some of the purse finally going Kingston way. And in third place, needing the winning score pick to resolve the tie is (E vs -5) is Barry Thompson’s team, The Grey Bear. And for the first time, we’re awarding the good sport award to Greene on the Green, who’s winning score was -14, 15 strokes off the winning score; everyone else who missed the cut did marginally better. Hope everyone enjoyed the pool and had a great father’s day. Cheers. More news here. |
